Still, during their first week in Okinawa, we squeezed in a day trip to Ie island for the Lily Festival. We hopped on a ferry to get there.
Once on the island, a tour bus took us to a few scenic spots on the island before taking us to the Lily Festival.
Heading down into a cave.
Oh, Maya.
Cool view from the inside.
“It’s too bright, mom!”
Then, they took us to Mt. Gusuku, the highest point on the mountain. No, they didn’t take us to the top…we had to hike it! It wasn’t as bad as I remembered it being last year.
The view from the top was beautiful.
A little scary though, since there was nothing to keep the kiddos from plummeting over the edge, so we didn’t stay up there long.
Once we reached the bottom, conveniently, there was a little gift shop with trinkets and delicious, fruity, creamy snow cones. Yes, please!
Finally, the Lily Festival!
What a treat for these two girls to meet Ie Islands mascot, lol!
Lilies, lilies everywhere! Every kind and color imaginable!
I liked this little early bloomer.
A few of those with endless energy went exploring the crazy moon rocks while the rest of us relaxed for a bit.
Like last year, we had to let the kids ride the horses.
Then, it was time to head back to the bus.
Kids were constantly asking Julie and Becca for piggy back rides. They gave in this time.
I wasn’t kidding when I said we didn’t waste a second. This was the day before we left for Hong Kong! One week down, one to go!
