Naha Tug of War

We finally made it to the Naha tug of war, this year. For one reason or another we missed it the last two years. This was our last chance so we made it happen.

We got there about an hour and a half early so we went to see the rope on 58 before going down Kokusai.

The rope was laying down the middle of the road. There were two separate ropes that would be combined by a gigantic wooden peg.

We took a quick little stroll down Kokusai street.

Always an adventure.

We headed back to 58 pretty quickly because we wanted to make sure we didn’t miss the beginning. Turns out the opening ceremonies last about an hour. We had no idea so we threw ourselves in with the crowd of people and were squished up against each other like I’ve never been squished before.

Once the actual tug of war was going to start and people were getting into place to get their piece of the rope, we quickly realized this was entirely too dangerous for Arabella and Eva. I gladly volunteered to take them to safer ground. After about 20 minutes of tugging and chanting there was an outburst of cheers! One of the sides had won! After a side has won it is time to cut the rope and it is said to be good luck to take home a piece of the rope. We got our rope!

My favorite part of the whole event was watching them remove the rope.

What a neat ‘once in a lifetime’ experience. I love checking things off of our Okinawa bucket list.
We headed back to where our bus was going to pick us up and had some Snapchat fun.

Love our family adventures, even when they are hard and crazy!
